Alabama Sen.-elect Doug Jones has nominated a black former transportation official who served below President Barack Obama to be his chief of employees.
Jones’ determination to select Dana Gresham would make him the one Democratic senator to have an African-American as his chief of employees. Republican Sens. Tim Scott, of South Carolina, and Jerry Moran, of Kansas, each have black chiefs of employees, Politico reported Tuesday.
Gresham — a Birmingham native — served as assistant secretary for presidency affairs within the Division of Transportation below the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017. He additionally served as chief of employees for former Alabama Rep. Artur Davis from 2003 to 2008, in accordance with his LinkedIn web page.
Jones defeated his Republican opponent Roy Moore — whose marketing campaign had been strained by sexual harassment allegations by a number of ladies — within the state’s particular election on Dec. 12.
Blacks made up 29% of the electoral vote, 98% of black ladies and 93% of black males voted for Jones.
Jones is predicted to be sworn in on Wednesday.
