Local Golf Notebook, Feb. 28: Hilton Head's Miles wins IJGT Georgia Junior

Hilton Head Island's Will Miles shot a 74-69--143 over the weekend to win the Boys 15-19 Division of the International Junior Golf Tour's two-day, 36-hole Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor.

Miles overcame a four-stroke Day 1 deficit to edge Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy student Austin McCulloch by a stroke for his first victory.

"After finishing second in the past two tournaments, it feels good to finally bring home a first-place finish," Miles said.

Hilton Head Island's Ewen Ferguson was third.

In the Boys Under 14 Division, Jan Schneider, also a Hank Haney IJGA student, posted rounds of 72 and 76 to defeat classmate Will Thomson by a stroke.

Ceha Lee, a full-time Hank Haney IJGA student, won the Girls Under 19 Division, She shot 71 and 74 to defeat classmate Cake Phuchanbanchob by two strokes.

This weekend, the IJGT will host its Family Weekend at Port Royal Golf Club, a two-day, 36-hole event. The tournament is nationally ranked by the AJGA, Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard.


Bluffton's Alec Weary finished third in the Boys 11-14 Division of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's Greenville JR. Shootout this past weekend in Greer.


Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy and Hilton Head Hospital will present The Hilton Head Golf Forum "Putters and Prostates" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the Palmetto Dunes Centre Court Conference Center.

The forum designed to lower your scores and improve your health is interactive, informative and entertaining, Doug Weaver, director of the Golf Academy and former PGA Tour player said.

Speakers and guests include Dr. Richard Vanderslice, a board certified urologist with Hilton Head Hospital, award-winning golf course architect Clyde Johnston and PGA Tour/ USGA rules official Mike Murphy.
