A 49-year-old man suffered minor injuries after he was attacked by three men who tried to take his money early Sunday on Hilton Head Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to the emergency room of Hilton Head Hospital at about 4:30 a.m., where the man was being treated for facial injuries, according to a news release.
The victim reported he was walking on the bike path from his home at Chimney Cove to a nearby convenience store when two Hispanic males and one black male attempted to rob him, the release said.
He told deputies the black male grabbed him from behind while the two Hispanic males punched him repeatedly in the face. The victim kept his hands in his pockets to prevent them from taking his money, and the three men gave up and fled, the release said.
The man then flagged a passing motorist to take him to the hospital, where he was treated and released. He was unable to provide any further description of his attackers, according to the Sheriff's Office.
