Rain has washed out the second day's play in the Beaufort Cup at Hilton Head Island School, and a combination of the weather and S.C. High School League rules have forced the tournament to shuffle its plans for Sunday and beyond.
First, because of travel limitations, Battery Creek and Beaufort High, the two schools yet to play, are swapping brackets. Secondly, the two games in Group I will be played away from Hilton Head Island High on Sunday.
"Both Beaufort High and Beaufort Academy have graciously offered to host a match," Hilton Head Island coach Wayne Quinlan said.
And the final change is a big one.
Because SCHSL rules will not allow a third game in any single day, there can be no championship game on Sunday. After Sunday's games determine the bracket winners, the two teams will play on a yet-to-be-determined day next week in a championship game at Hilton Head Island High.
"I have seldom seen such cooperation, patience and understanding between coaches as I have today," Quinlan said. "(Their) professionalism has been incredible as we have tried to make the best of the situation."
