A former Hampton County Sheriff's deputy was indicted this week for molesting a student, according to a news release from 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Larry Heyward, 52, was indicted by the Hampton County Grand Jury Thursday on one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor between 11- and 14-years-old, one count of committing a lewd act on a minor, and one count of misconduct in public office.
Heyward worked as a school resource officer during the time of the incidents. He was fired after a male student reported he had been abused on multiple occasions between August 2010 and December 2012.
The S.C. Law Enforcement Division was called to investigate after the student's report. That investigation is ongoing, according to the release. The Solicitor's Office is preparing the case for trial.
