Former Gov. Mark Sanford, a candidate in the 1st congressional race, announced today the endorsement of former Beaufort GOP state Sen. Scott Richardson.
Richardson represented the Senate district currently held by Sen. Tom Davis, R-Beaufort, who has also endorsed Sanford. Richardson cited Sanford's commitment to addressing the state's fiscal challenges, as well as his focus on quality of life issues, as reasons for his endorsement.
"Mark inherited a terrible fiscal situation as governor but turned it around by making tough choices that eliminated nearly $1 billion in debt and deficits," Richardson said. "As well, he worked tirelessly to protect the quality of life in the Lowcountry and across the state by setting aside more land than any other governorship in state history. I am proud to stand with him today, as I did during my time in the Senate."
