ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The Captain William Hilton Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution honored 15 students from Hilton Head Island schools during their annual Awards Day ceremony and luncheon Feb. 13.
  • The Good Citizens Award, which commends seniors for the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, patriotism and academic excellence, was presented to Katie Crowe of Hilton Head Christian Academy and Helen Cardamone of Hilton Head Preparatory School.

    The American History Essay Award was presented to fifth-grader Anna Sulek of Hilton Head Preparatory School for her winning essay "Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence."

    The Good Citizenship Award, which commends students for their demonstration of honor, service, leadership and patriotism, was presented to 12 elementary and middle school students.

  • Christ Lutheran Preschool is holding an open house for parents from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at the school, 829 William Hilton Parkway.   • Fourth-grader Taylen McClure was chosen recently as the Knights of Columbus Council winner in their annual drug and alcohol abuse awareness poster contest. Taylen's winning poster was judged the council winner for alcohol abuse awareness in the 8 to 11 year old group.
  • EVENTS

  • The fifth-grade class will present the "American Pop Forever" concert at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28.
  • Chick-fil-A Spirit Night is 5-8 p.m. Feb. 27.
  • The fourth- and fifth-grade choral group "Singers" will perform a selection of showtunes at 12:45 p.m. March 2 at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's Youth Festival.
  • HELPING HANDS

  • Kindergarten registration will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. March 11-15. No appointment is necessary. Parents of children turning 5 on or before Sept. 1 should register. Documentation required for registration includes the child's birth certificate and shot record as well as a proof of residence.

  • Senior Emily Beasley won first place in the Island School Council of the Arts Promising Picassos Student Art Exhibit. Junior Deia Hunt placed third; and senior Gracie Anderson received an honorable mention.
  • 10th-graders Lucas McMillan and Noah Sulek placed first and second, respectively, at the SCISA State Chess Tournament.
  • Science chairwoman Tina Webb-Browning has been selected to read for the AP Chemistry exams, and middle school Spanish instructor Mae Chalk has been chosen as a Table Leader for the AP Spanish exams.

  • The next Parents' Association meeting is at 8:15 a.m. Feb. 20 in the KNS Media Center.
  • There will be a Coaches' Open House at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the middle-school gym for parents whose children are participating in a spring sport.

  • The five Promising Picasso students were Lisa Campion, Izaria Singletary, Domiano Vicario, Dreanna Chisolm and Lydia John. The Island School Council for the Arts exhibit collects artwork from students south of the Broad.
  • Fifth-grader Emma Beishir participated in the South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir performance held Feb. 9 in Charleston.

  • Chick-fil-A night is 5-8 p.m. Feb. 20.
  • The Family Fitness Fair will be held at the track and cafeteria starting at 10 a.m. Feb. 23. It is a full day of exercise promoting health, fitness and wellness for the whole family. There will be a full schedule of bike activities, including a bicycle rodeo, inspections and repairs. Also new this year is the Master Gardeners of Bluffton teaching families how to start a garden.

  • St. Francis placed second overall at the S.C. Independant Schools Association Regional Spelling Bee. Third-grader Braydon O'Leary and fifth-grader Austin Mitchell both took first place for their grade level and were invited to the SCISA State Spelling Bee at Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree. Third-grader Emma Knight, fifth-grader Alessandro Cocovich and sixth-grader Isabella Barrero placed third, and eighth-grader Isabelle Boatright placed fourth.
