University of South Carolina Beaufort men's golfers braved bad weather and an impressive field of NCAA Division I
competition to start the spring season Monday and Tuesday at the Savannah Quarters Individual Intercollegiate.

Junior Brian Langley (76-76-75--227) and sophomore Andrew McCullough (76-73-78--227) tied for 16th to lead the USCB contingent, and senior Travis Cashion (82-71-75--228) and freshman Cory Cottrell (77-80-71--228) tied for 20th. Cottrell's 71 in the final round matched the second-lowest round of the day.

Alabama's Trey Mullinax (67-71-66--204) won the title with a 54-hole score of 12-under-par 204, good for a seven-shot win over South Carolina's Will Murphy (74-66-71--211).

Golfers from Florida State, Chattanooga, Mercer, Georgia Southern, Liberty and North Florida also competed in the event.

Freshman Alex Mihai (74-81-76--231) also cracked the top 25 for the Sand Sharks, and sophomore Chris Finke (77-75-84--236), junior Owen Bell (80-82-78--240) and freshman Brad Curran (78-80-83--241) finished in the top 35.

The Sand Sharks, ranked 21st in NAIA, open their first team event of the season Friday, facing Sun Conference rival SCAD Savannah in a dual match at the Club at Savannah Harbor.
