As the executive director of Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, I would like to express my deepest thanks to the Bargain Box thrift store on Hilton Head Island for its generous grant in support of our mission to provide hope and healing for abused children and rape victims.
When we applied for this grant last year, we had a waiting list of more than 20 victims (mainly children) who needed trauma-focused counseling to help heal from their physical or sexual abuse.
The grant from the Bargain Box helped leverage an additional $54,000 from another source, which allowed us to increase our capacity to provide specialized mental health treatment for abused children, thus alleviating the waiting list. This truly is a life-saving grant.
We want to thank the board, staff and all the wonderful volunteers at the Bargain Box, who put in countless hours to manage the store and keep sales up. The level of volunteerism and philanthropy demonstrated by this special group is truly inspiring. If you have treasures lying around in your home that need a new home, consider donating them to the Bargain Box. They will turn them into dollars distributed to local nonprofit groups. And where else can you shop and save lives all at the same time?
