'Plaid About Reading' program under way

The Heritage Classic Foundation's third annual Plaid About Reading program is taking place through Feb. 20, presenting the chance for area students to earn prizes and tickets to April's RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island.

Plaid About Reading is a reading competition that awards exclusive prizes to area elementary school students, from kindergarten to fifth grade, and the overall school that reads the most books.

Awards include:

  • The school that reads the most books will win a visit from two PGA Tour golfers and Sir Willie Innes on April 17.
  • The class that reads the most books will win $500.
  • The student who reads the most books from each class (K-5) will receive two daily grounds tickets to the RBC Heritage good for one day of the tournament, which runs from April 18-21 at Harbour Town Golf Links.

    IJGT Shootout at Colleton River

    The International Junior Golf Tour's IJGT Shootout at Colleton River will be held this weekend at Colleton River's Pete Dye Course in Bluffton.

    The tournament, for junior golfers ages 9 to 19, will be 36 holes -- 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
