Adonis Williams smiled as he crossed halfcourt during the second half, dribbled a few more times and drove to his left, finishing with a layup.
The Battery Creek High School freshman learned in the first half that North Charleston didn't have the personnel to stop him. He took advantage, over and over, helping Battery Creek to a 70-55 victory Friday and a lock on second place in Region 6-AA.
"I just seen I could score the ball and nobody could guard me," Williams said. "So I just scored."
Battery Creek broke away from a halftime tie, tightening its defense and running out on the break. Williams -- who finished with 23 points -- led the way, finding open teammates under the basket or taking the ball himself.
Williams' performance this season has re-affirmed coach Antoine Youmans' decision to start a feshman on varsity. He knew Williams would play as a freshman, ever since watching him at a Savannah State camp when the guard was in seventh grade.
Battery Creek talked after practice Thursday about taking the Cougars seriously, after a lopsided win on the road. The Dolphins were out of place defensively for much of the first half, Youmans said, before solving their issues during the third quarter.
The Dolphins' three seniors -- Marquis Burton, Teyvon Jennette and Savon Scales -- started their final regular-season home game before giving way to the usual starters.

Battery Creek didn't want to brush past North Charleston, not in the final stretch of the season and certainly not on senior night.
The Dolphins stayed focused, using a couple of big runs to sink the Cougars and maintain a hold on third place in Region 6-AA. After the game, seniors Khadijah Badger, Alex Bazemore and Devin Mitchell were recognized.
"I tried to step up, because we're seniors," said Bazemore, who scored 12 points. "We didn't take them lightly. We knew they wanted to win, too."
Battery Creek closed the first half on a 12-0 run and used a 12-0 run during the third quarter to cement the rout.
