The union representing Beaufort County school-bus drivers accused Durham School Services of breaking its pledge to keep their negotiations behind closed doors.

"Durham School Services initially told us they did not want to negotiate this contract through the media," a Teamsters statement issued Wednesday said. "We have honored their request despite the fact that they have not done the same."

Durham officials released details of its counterproposal Tuesday to raise bus drivers' pay.

Beaufort union members voted Monday to strike should negotiations fail. Teamsters and Durham officials met Tuesday and Wednesday and will meet today to continue talks. The Beaufort County School District contracts with Durham for bus services.
