A single-vehicle crash in Bluffton early Saturday morning sent three people to Savannah's Memorial University Medical Center, one by helicopter and two by ambulance.

The Bluffton Township Fire District arrived at Alljoy Road near Burnt Church Road about 3 a.m. The first responders on the scene found a 2005 Chevy pickup on fire, according to fire district Capt. Randy Hunter.

The driver, a 29-year-old Bluffton resident, and a 23-year-old man escaped from the vehicle, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres. Both were wearing seatbelts, Beres said. The second passenger, a 26-year-old man, was ejected from the truck, Beres said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Patrol investigators believe the driver lost control after passing another vehicle. It is not known whether alcohol or speed was a factor in the wreck, Beres said. The investigation is continuing.

The conditions of all three were unavailable late Saturday.
