A 41-year-old Bluffton man suspected of armed robbery on Hilton Head Island Saturday was arrested Wednesday morning after a brief vehicle chase.
Dwan Valentino Doe is accused of robbery while armed with a pistol and crowbar. He allegedly confronted a 31-year-old male Saturday night at a Kangaroo Express on Hilton Head Island and tried to convince the victim to accompany him to "meet some girls," according to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh. The victim told authorities he declined Doe's offer and drove off, but Doe followed him in his small black pick-up. When the victim pulled over on Lemoyne Avenue, Doe robbed him, McIntosh said.
After Doe was identified, deputies saw him driving at about 1 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 278 near New Orleans Road. When they tried to pull him over, he tied to escape through Folly Field Beach Park but hit a chain blocking the parking lot.
McIntosh said Doe then tried to run away but was quickly caught and arrested. Deputies said Doe was carrying 4.5 grams of crack cocaine.
Doe faces charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent incident in connection with Saturday's incident. He was charged with fleeing to evade arrest, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and failure to stop for blue lights in connection with Wednesday's incident.
Doe is being held at Beaufort County Detention Center with bail set at $190,000, according to the jail log.
