The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort has been certified as Audubon cooperative sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program.

The course is the fifth on Hilton Head Island, the 24th in South Carolina, and the 995th in the world to receive the honor.

"The Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program," said Joellen Lampman, Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary programs director. "They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property."

To gain certification, a course must demonstrate a high degree of environmental quality in planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical use, and water conservation.
