The second-grade students will sponsor a shoe drive to support a charitable organization called Soles4Souls. This organization collects shoes (both new and used) for people in need. The drive will last until Jan. 15. Donations are welcome. Collection boxes will be located at both entrances. Details: www.soles4souls.org

Hilton Head Island High School will host the third annual Parent University, a Hilton Head Island Cluster School initiative at 6 p.m. Feb. 5. All parents, grandparents, and caregivers of students of all ages are invited to attend these free workshops. Parent University is an opportunity for parents and community members to access the wealth of local experts on various topical subjects. The national program is designed to create stronger and better educated communities. Child care for ages up to 12 will be provided at no charge. Registration will start at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged as seating is limited to 250 registrants.
