As we struggle through yet another fiscal crisis, I would like to know why we are sending billions of tax dollars to no less than 150 countries throughout the world. Do we really believe our generosity will buy their love? I think not.
Here are just a few examples of our misplaced generosity. Currently, we are sending foreign aid to Venezuela, a country headed by Hugo Chavez, who despises America; Pakistan, a country that had imprisoned the very individual who helped us locate Osama bin Laden; Egypt, a country governed by a fundamentalist group known as the Muslim Brotherhood; and Cuba, even though travel to this country by United States citizens is restricted.
The list goes on and on, and again I ask if anybody can give a reasonable explanation for the mindless largess of our federal government.
After all, why do we have to pay these countries to hate us when they will gladly do it for free?
