High School Roundup, Dec. 22: HHH girls, boys cruise to Seahawk Holiday Classic wins

Sophomore Lauryn Bush had 16 points and seven steals, classmate Zion Campbell added nine points and nine rebounds and the Hilton Head Island High School girls basketball team won its opener in the Seahawk Holiday Classic, 46-27, over Fort Dorchester on Friday.

Americal Jenkins chipped in eight points and Savannah Reier contributed three points, six steals and five assists for Hilton Head High, which led 29-17 at halftime.

Hilton Head High (7-1) takes on Baylor (Tenn.) in today's 5 p.m. semifinal.

In boys' tournament play, Hilton Head High beat Smith County (Tenn.) 51-43.

Aaron Frazier led the Seahawks (4-4) with 22 points. Jacob Coltrane added nine and Michael Julian scored eight.

Burke 47, Beaufort High 35: Mattie Hibbs scored 11 and Jordan Fields had eight, but it wasn't enough to get the Eagles (0-7) their first win.

The Eagles, who trailed 17-16 at the half, next play Dec. 27-29 at the Carolina Invitational in Charleston.


Hilton Head Prep 86, Thomas Heyward 62: The Dolphins (8-4) rolled up a 30-point second quarter and everyone played in the second half as Hilton Head Prep downed Thomas Heyward Academy.

Randy Young led the Dolphins with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while John Eck recorded 20 and 10. Cole Gardocki added 16, and Charlie Wilmot dished out seven assists.

Davis Owens led Thomas Heyward with 19.

Hilton Head Prep is off until playing Jan. 4 at Pinewood Prep.

  • Beaufort High 57, Burke 41: Led by Keion Marshall's 13 points, the Eagles (7-0) remained perfect.

    Thomas Parker added eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks, Otis McLain had eight points, nine rebounds and Adonis Grant added eight points.

    Kendrick Coleman was a Jack-of-all-trades, scoring five points, grabbing 10 rebounds, making four steals and notching six blocks.

    Craig Williams led Burke with 14.

    The Eagles next play Dec. 27-29 in a tournament at Burke.


    Battery Creek: The Dolphins went 2-3 at Camden County (Ga.), beating First Coast (Fla.), and Bayside (Fla), while losing to Camden County (Ga.) A, Camden County (Ga.) B and Yulee (Fla.).

    DeAndre Johnson, Isaiah Sloan and Brian Labean each went 4-1 for the Dolphins (15-7), which will next wrestle Dec. 27-28 at the Seahawk Slam at Hilton Head Island High.

    Hilton Head Island: The Seahawks went 3-1 at at Camden County (Ga.), beating Bayside (Fla.) 50-25, Camden County (Ga.) B 38-24 and First Coast (Fla.) 72-12. Hilton Head Island lost to Camden County (Ga.) A, the defending Georgia Class 5-A champion, 64-13.

    Matt Levy (106), Label Lewis (138) and J.C. Graham (220) went 5-0 for the Seahawks (18-9), while Brock Massey (126) and Martin Duane (160) went 4-1. Aaron Facenda was 3-1 at 170.

    The Seahawks host the Seahawk Slam from Dec. 27-29.
