A Burton man charged last week with performing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 16 had allegedly victimized a girl over the course of four years, according to the arrest warrant.
Edi Rolando Suazo, 32, was arrested Friday by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office following a joint investigation with the Beaufort Police Department over accusations he fondled an 8-year-old girl on multiple occasions beginning in January 2008 and ending in October. The incidents occurred at his mobile home off County Shed Road and at Beaufort Bible Chapel at 913 West St., according to the warrant.
A gate to the chapel was locked Tuesday afternoon and the building appeared to be empty. Calls Monday and Tuesday to numbers listed for the chapel were not answered and messages not returned as of Tuesday evening. Law enforcement officials have not said what Suazo's connection is to the Bible chapel.
A Sheriff's Office investigator said Monday that Suazo was an acquaintance of the child's family, but declined to provide further details, saying the Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
