The Sun City Travel Softball Team competed against eight teams in the 60 AA bracket of the ISSA US Open National Championships. After losing the opening game 17-16 against Pennsylvania's Spring Ford 60's, Sun City defeated North Carolina's New Bern, 15-0. Then, in the double-elimination games, Sun City beat North Carolina's Flip Dow, 21-19. Sun City went on to beat Spring Ford 60's, 19-11, in a rematch to earn one of two No. 1 seeds along with the Virginia Cavaliers in the 60 AA bracket. "Sun City showed that a community travel team can hold its own against highly selected tournament teams. We are fortunate to have players that simply will not quit. We matched our competitors in determination, hits and defensive plays throughout the tournament," said coach Ross Glatzer.
