A St. Helena Island man faces an attempted-murder charge after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the face, according to Capt. Bob Bromage of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Marcus Andrew Bryan, 25, was driving with the victim in his Buick LeSabre at about 12:30 a.m. Friday when the couple got into an argument, Bromage said. Bryan pulled over the car on Bayview Road, got out and fired several shots into the car, he said.
One bullet grazed the 35-year-old victim's face. She drove herself to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where she reported the incident to authorities. She was treated and released, Bromage said.
Bryan turned himself in to Sheriff's deputies at about 4 p.m. Friday and was initially charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol, Bromage said. The attempted-murder charge was added Saturday after Bryan admitted to the incident during interviews with investigators, Bromage said.
Bryan was in the Beaufort County Detention Center late Saturday awaiting a bond hearing, according to the jail log.
