Barbara de Neeve, Bluffton resident and member of the Beaufort County Open Land Trust, walks Tuesday along the first completed mile of the Spanish Moss Trail near Depot Road in Beaufort. "Preserving the land and making use of it, it's important," said de Neeve. The first mile of the trail, which runs between Depot and Allison roads, was officially opened earlier in the day by city and county officials. The long-term goal is for the path to stretch from Port Royal to the Whale Branch River and possibly beyond.
