The Hilton Head Christian Academy football team defeated region rival Thomas Heyward Academy, 29-22, this evening in the SCISAA Class 2-A state championship game in Columbia. It was the Eagles' second state title in a row.
Brad Meccariello had a touchdown reception, a touchdown run and a key interception in the fourth quarter as Hilton Head Christian (12-1) fought back from a Thomas Heyward rally in the third quarter. JD Tuten had a touchdown run and Ryan Day scored on a 95-yard reception in the third quarter for the Rebels (12-2) to tie the game at 22-all.
Jamario Williams and Tyler Chisholm scored touchdowns and Chisholm kicked a field goal in the first half for Hilton Head Christian, while Ryan Day added a long touchdown run for Thomas Heyward.
