Authorities are searching for a 44-year-old man who disappeared from a Hilton Head Island job site Thursday.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says Stacey David of Sumter walked away from a work site at 11 Office Park Road at about noon Thursday. He failed to return to the hotel where he and a co-worker were staying.
The co-worker became concerned and reported him missing at about 9 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office.
The co-worker told deputies David was acting strangely before he left the job and was seen walking around talking to himself. David has no car, cellphone or known contacts on the island, and is unfamiliar with the area, the co-worker told deputies.
David is not considered a threat to himself or to others, according to a Sheriff's Office news release, "however, given his unusual behavior just prior to his disappearance, he is being considered as an endangered missing person, possibly requiring immediate medical attention."
David is described as black, about 5-foot-7, 130 pounds, and may go by the nickname "Blade." He was wearing a blue coat, blue jeans and a beige cap when he disappeared.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (274-6372), text the word TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637), or call investigator Sgt. L. Albertin at 843-255-3413.
