In its four decades, The Children's Center has grown from serving 15 children to more than 300 youngsters at sites on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton.
The organization, which provides child care for working parents, is a United Way of the Lowcountry agency.
"For 95 percent of the approximately 270 families served by The Children's Center, a sliding fee scale means parents can continue to remain in the workforce while their children receive high quality early education and care," Jennifer Gauthier-Cajigas of The Children's Center said in a news release.
The Children's Center is one of several organizations that receives funding from United Way of the Lowcounry, which announced Thursday that gifts and pledges totaling more than $1,571,000 have put it about 56 percent of the way toward its annual fundraising campaign goal of $2.8 million.
