Cooler weather is a reminder it soon will be Christmastime in the Lowcountry, and Operation Holiday Heroes is gearing up to help with toys and food for those in need.

Operation Holiday Heroes is a countywide collaboration of Toys For Tots, Bluffton Self Help, The Deep Well Project, the Salvation Army, Love House Ministries, The Beaufort Gazette and The Island Packet, and United Way of the Lowcountry. Its mission is to ensure that every child and family in need has toys and food for the holidays.

Those who need holiday help can seek it in several locations:

The organization will hold its registration from noon to 5 p.m. each Tuesday through Thursday from Nov. 20 through Dec. 17. To receive assistance, recipients must provide photo identification; proof of residence, such as a lease or electric bill; a Social Security card or birth certificate for each member of the household; proof of household income, such as check stubs if working or a Department of Social Services printout if not; and all bills for the household.
