A 53-year-old Hilton Head Island man was arrested for trafficking cocaine Saturday night after deputies found 13.7 grams of the drug during a search of his vehicle, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
William James Hanley of Indigo Run Drive has been released on his own recognizance from the Beaufort County Detention Center on the trafficking charge, according to the jail log.
Deputies went to the Arrow Center parking lot on Arrow Road at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday after a report that a black Range Rover had been idling there for about 45 minutes, according to an incident report.
They found Hanley in a vehicle matching the description and questioned him. One deputy saw a clear plastic bag inside the vehicle, triggering a search, the report said.
Several baggies with a white powder substance were found in an empty cigarette pack and the center console of the Range Rover. The substance field-tested positive for cocaine, the report said.
Hanley told deputies he was "set up," according to the report.
