Three people were taken to area hospitals Friday afternoon after this two-car crash on S.C. 170 near the U.S. 278 interchange.
The Bluffton Township Fire District, Beaufort County EMS, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene about 2:30 p.m., according to fire district spokesman Capt. Randy Hunter.
The driver of a silver sedan was trapped in the vehicle, and it took emergency crews about 15 minutes to free the victim, Hunter said. All three of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance, he said. He couldn't provide further details because the Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Attempts Friday to reach Highway Patrol officials were unsuccessful.
That portion of S.C. 170 was closed while the wreck was cleared. The incident tied up traffic for about an hour on both roadways.
