A Bluffton man was arrested at a Bank of America branch off U.S. 278 Friday night after he allegedly tried to cash a forged check and assaulted two Bluffton Police officers, authorities said.

Preston Morse, 29, was at the bank on Windrush Lane just after 5 p.m. when officers arrived at the request of an employee, according to Bluffton Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joe Babkiewicz. Morse tried to escape, and two police officers suffered minor injuries while capturing him, Babkiewicz said.

Morse had not been registered at the Beaufort County Detention Center as of 6:30 p.m. Friday, but Babkiewicz said the suspect will face charges of possession of a stolen check and forgery. Babkiewicz also said Morse will likely be charged with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.
