A ruptured water heater destroyed a Hilton Head Island home Tuesday, authorities say.
The tank ruptured in the attic, flooding the Yacht Cove residence, according to the Red Cross, which responded to the incident along with the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division.
The house lost power and was rendered uninhabitable, the Red Cross said.
Red Cross volunteers gave the elderly female resident money to replace food and clothing lost in the flooding and provided referrals to partner agencies to assist with her long-term recovery, according to a news release.
