The Bluffton High School boys basketball team took a big step toward winning the Region 7-AAA title Friday night, knocking off region-leading Lake Marion, 74-57.

Marquis Webber played a major role in the Bobcats' victory, coming off the bench to score 15 points. He scored 11 of those points in the first half, helping the Bobcats take a 37-31 lead at the break.

"Marquis Webber was awesome," Bluffton coach Brett Macy said. "He really lifted us in the first quarter."

CJ Frazier added 12 points, Dimitri Lowry scored nine and Bryson Bell finished with eight points in limited action because of foul trouble. Macy credited Bo Strimpfel and Harlan Kendrick with strong rebounding efforts.

"The game plan was to make them shoot over us and then push the ball at them," Macy said. "We got good shots and we really didn't give up a ton of offensive rebounds. The kids had the game plan and executed it perfectly. They played tough."

Bluffton (14-2 overall, 5-1 region) moves into a first-place tie with Lake Marion (14-4, 5-1), but now holds the tie-breaker over the Gators. Still, with a handful of region games to play, Macy isn't counting on anything yet.

"It's going to be a long two weeks," he said.

The Bobcats play tonight at Hilton Head Prep. The junior varsity boys play at 5 p.m., with the varsity boys to follow around 6:30.
