GOP primary results reveal some old truths

In Saturday's Republican presidential primary, South Carolinians overwhelmingly chose Newt Gingrich as their candidate.

This immediately brought to my mind a quote attributed to South Carolina's James Louis Petigru, lawyer, politician and one-time South Carolina attorney general, who on being asked whether he would support South Carolina's secession from the Union replied, "South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for a lunatic asylum."

Even after more than 150 years, some things just seem to remain the same.
