Sharon is a young mother of two and lives in public housing. Last winter, her daughter
came down with scabies, a contagious skin rash spread by parasitic mites.
Sharon was unemployed at the time and could not afford the expensive prescription used to treat the condition.
The nonprofit Deep Well Project paid for the medicine to help the young girl recover from the skin condition.
Deep Well provides a broad range of social services for the working poor, disabled and sick on Hilton Head Island. It funds half of its services through the annual Empty Well campaign, which began Thursday and runs through the first of the year.
