This is in response to the letter written about the closing of the Marcel Scheiner gallery. '
I think it is a shame to see any closing of a gallery due to the fact of today's poor economy. I am in the gallery business myself, and I believe the poor economy is the real reason for the gallery's closing. '
As a mother of two small children and the owner of the Calhoun Street Art Gallery in Bluffton, I know that I make a lot of personal sacrifices and neglect myself and what I need. I feel that because of the recession, people have neglected their own needs.'
Art might be a luxury but it is also a "cleansing of the soul," as Pablo Picasso said. Art gives the public a break from their daily lives allowing people to look at beauty, to dream, to live. '
Therefore I would like to encourage the public to go to local galleries and dream the dreams that artists have created for them from the depths of their souls.'
