The trial for a 25-year-old Beaufort man accused of a fatal shooting in a Subway restaurant is scheduled to begin Monday.
Rajerick Lovell Knight faces a charge of murder and one count of possessing a weapon during a violent crime. He allegedly walking into the sandwich shop on 330 Robert Smalls Parkway on July 26, 2011, and opened fire on Travis Sentell Holmes with a .40 caliber handgun.
Holmes, who was 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified Knight and issued warrants for his arrest a day after the shooting. He was arrested by U.S. marshals in Jacksonville, Fla., on July 29, 2011, after an investigation by the Beaufort Police Department, the Marshals Service and other agencies.
The murder warrant says the shooting was recorded on surveillance camera, and Knight was identified by witnesses in a photo lineup.
Knight has remained in the Beaufort County Detention Center since he was extradited from Florida and was denied bond in S.C. Magistrate Court, according to court records.
Jury selection and pretrial hearings are scheduled for Monday in Beaufort County General Sessions, according to 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone. Knight is represented by Arie Bax of The Bax Law Firm in Beaufort, according to court records.
Knight pleaded guilty to pointing a firearm in 2006 and was sentenced to 18 months of probation. A charge of assault and battery with intent to kill was filed in November 2007 but dropped in March 2007.
