A week after H.E. McCracken Middle School principal Phillip Shaw began what school officials are calling a personal leave, the Beaufort County School District's spokesman refused to answer questions about his absence.
"To protect the privacy of our employees, we're not going to discuss the reasons and circumstances of Mr. Shaw's personal leave or the leave status of other employees at the school," spokesman Jim Foster said in response to questions emailed to him by The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette. One of the questions was whether anyone else at the school was on leave as a result of circumstances that lead to Shaw's leave.
Shaw is receiving his pay while on leave, Foster said.
A note about Shaw's leave will go out to parents of McCracken students today, Foster said.
"Because he has been out of the building for just a few days, there has been no specific communication to parents," Foster said. Assistant Principal Joseph Warfield will send "a letter home with students (Thursday) to inform them that he is in charge while Principal Shaw is on personal leave," he said.
