An attorney for Lowcountry Medical Group and a spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration had no comment Thursday about an investigation involving the Port Royal medical practice.

The practice's chief executive officer, Turner Wortham, confirmed Wednesday that investigators visited the office this week but would not comment further. The group's attorney, Laura Evans of Charleston, also declined comment Thursday.

DEA Special Agent Chuvalo Truesdell said in email Thursday, "It would be improper for DEA to comment at this time," if there is an ongoing investigation.

A Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said Wednesday the Multi-Jurisdiction Drug Task Force is assisting the DEA.
