The Technical College of the Lowcountry will present its first Presidential Medallion Award to former Lt. Gov. W. Brantley Harvey Jr. at Friday's graduation ceremonies.
Harvey was born in Walterboro and grew up in Beaufort. He graduated from Beaufort High School in 1947. He was elected in 1958 to the S.C. House of Representatives, where he served until 1974. Harvey played a major role in establishing the Technical College of the Lowcountry. He served as lieutenant governor from 1975 to 1978.
TCL's commencement will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the All Weather Training Facility on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
