The Port Royal Sound Foundation among several organizations aiming to help secure a grant to clean up local waters and educate people on how to reduce marine debris.
To win the grant money, Clean Marine Beaufort needs people to vote at www.boatus.com. The project is competing against 13 others across the nation. People can vote once every 24 hours through March 15.
The foundation, Beaufort Soil & Water Conservation District, S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and other Beaufort County groups are part of the partnership campaigning for the project.
According to Riversmart, which is associated with the Port Royal Sound Foundation, the two-part project would raise awareness of marine debris and proper disposal. It also would solicit help from the community collecting data on debris.
