Beaufort County and other local nonprofits receive grants

Half a million dollars was distributed Friday to 58 nonprofit organizations serving Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton and Hampton counties to support their work this year.

The Beaufort Fund was established in 1997 and is managed by Coastal Community Foundation. Since inception, the fund has given more than $5 million to the community.

Grants were awarded to the following organizations:


Arts Council of Beaufort County, Colleton County Arts Council, Hampton Friends of the Arts, University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts


Agape Family Life Center, Alexander Community Development Center, Antioch Educational Center, Beaufort Academy's "The Aspire Program," Beaufort County First Steps, Born to Read Beaufort Partnership, The Children's Center, Colleton County Memorial Library's Summer Reading Program, Colleton Museum, Franciscan Center, Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, Hampton County Literacy Council, Jacksonboro Community Center, Junior Achievement Coastal South Carolina, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, National Allegiance for the Mentally Ill, Neighborhood Outreach Connection, South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Math Foundation, Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation, Thumbs Up
