A 62-year-old St. Helena Island man was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital after a lengthy standoff Wednesday with Beaufort County sheriff's deputies, authorities say.
At about 10 a.m., civil deputies arrived at a home on Joe Capers Road to serve the man with foreclosure papers and an eviction notice, said Sgt. Robin McIntosh, Sheriff's Office spokesman.
The man refused to comply, made threats against the officer and barricaded himself inside the home with a knife for several hours, McIntosh said.
At about 3 p.m., the Sheriff's Office sent out a news release saying the man had been taken into custody without incident. It is unknown whether he will be charged.
No injuries were reported.
