Its sign has said "coming soon" for weeks now, and on Tuesday, the new Port Royal Pasta Co. in Port Royal will open to the public.
The new restaurant at 1430 Ribaut Road is at the former site of Mario's Italian Ristorante, which closed earlier this year.
General manager Keith Potts said the restaurant will "provide a casual atmosphere with great food at a great price."
"We're basically going to be what I consider American Italian," Potts said. "We are not strictly pasta, that's just our base."
A veteran of the restaurant industry, Potts owned and operated Keith's Place on Ribaut Road until recently, when he closed the restaurant and billiard bar to do a major remodel. But the economic downturn and what he called an "unfortunate" business dealing forced him to change course.
The Keith's Place building is now under contract for sale, Potts said.
Potts said he's excited about the new venture, which is owned by Steve Leverton.
"For the last 15 to 20 years, it's been a goal of mine to own or operate a full-scale restaurant," Potts said.
The restaurant will be open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

"We think there's a real need for discounted merchandise up here," Hughes said. "We've outgrown Bluffton."
